Kitchen Update #6
Cabinets are installed and painted.
Floors have been refinished and the renovation dust has been removed from every glass, bowl, and plate in the kitchen (thanks Mom, Dad, and Marian for your good work).
Wall oven was installed on Saturday.
Cabinet door and drawer fronts will be installed on Wednesday.
Granite countertops and new sink will be installed Thursday.
Gas cooktop and down draft will be installed Friday.
Wall paint colors will be tested Friday night and Saturday morning with full painting of kitchen to occur next week.
That leaves only a few pesky issues to tie up - hard wiring the under cabinet lights, finishing off baseboards, re-installing the pot rack, etc.
We're so close to calling this project done that I can smell those Mexican Brownies Mike promised to bake at my house to christen the new oven. I'm already searching for a signature cocktail to serve at the official unveiling. I'm going to call it The Procrastinator.
Thought you all might find this e-mail exchange amusing. Years ago (two? three?) - Mike gave me a certificate for a batch of Mexican brownies (my favorite of his desserts) that he would bake in my oven to celebrate completion of the renovation. I'm glad he didn't include an expiration date. Anyway - this is what transpired yesterday afternoon ...
ME: if you really don't believe i've made progress on my kitchen, you need to visit my web site and read my kitchen updates in the OBSESSIONS DU JOUR section. see particularly "kitchen update #6."
MIKE: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! There are people who believe everything they read on the Internet. I am not one of those people. Nice try.
ME: i guess i'll just have to send you the photos of the kitchen warming party - you won't be in any of them since you refuse to believe any of this has happened
MIKE: Uh huh. Now you expect me to believe images of your imaginary kitchen full of your imaginary friends. I too, have a copy of PhotoShop. To bring this inane exchange to an end, extend the invitation for the dedicatory brownie baking ceremony and I will appear on the appointed date, ingredients in hand, to be convinced.

A suggested Procrastinator cocktail recipe:
2 oz. Ketel One Citroen
1/2 oz. soda water
splash fresh lime juice
splash simple syrup
mint leaves
.......muddle......shake.....pour.....procrastinate.
I can't WAIT for photos....
I DO wish I could be there.
Besides, you know how Deb procrastinates. This will most likely be a Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa party by the time she gets around to it.
