Kitchen Renovation - Update #1
The island is gone. The pantry is gone. And, one third of the tile floor is gone. Marian and I accomplished all this "deconstruction" in five hours of sweaty but rewarding work. Who knew it felt so good to bash something to bits with a sledgehammer? Well, she knew ... that's why she volunteered to lead the demolition. To prove that I actually did something other than observe, I'm sharing a photo of me getting intimate with a pry bar. Miscellaneous observations, epiphanies, and discoveries follow ...
- they don't call 'em safety glasses for nothing
- every woman should have tools (and I mean grown up big boy tools - sledgehammer, chisel, pry bars, etc.)
- the floor under a stove is not something you want to see too many times in your lifetime, particularly while on your hands and knees
- my hardwood floors are in great shape under that depressing sea of gray tile
- always let the plumber handle the gas line
Here's what we're looking at for this week ...
- pry up the rest of this tile and the plywood subflooring
- buy a stainless steel dishwasher
- install said dishwasher
- call the electrician about a new line for the wall oven and hard wiring the under cabinet task lights
I may be slow getting started, my friends, but watch me now. Oh, Ellen, a Yo pizza contains the following ingredients ... pineapple, spinach, garlic, hot sausage, artichoke hearts, mozzarella, and feta cheese, on a ricotta base. Come visit soon. We'll enjoy one together.

I'm very excited you've started the kitchen. Looking forward to seeing the shiny new version.
I second the knee pad recommendation. And I couldn't agree more; we did most of our demolition, and my sledgehammer and I are bonded pals now. Good times.
Nicely done!
I asked the question, because I figured the way Deb quantifies things, she would already know that number.
