Kitchen Update #3

The tile and the subfloor have been successfully removed after a long and painstaking process. We had to call in the big guns ... Billy, who can solve just about any renovation problem ... to remove the final pieces of subfloor and tile from the edges of the base cabinets that weren't taken out in my demolition frenzy. That involved more pry bar action, a special saw, Billy's ingenuity, and some good old-fashioned man strength. What's up for this week? Glad you asked ...

  • estimate from Mr. Skinner who will be refinishing the kitchen floor
  • try to keep the cat out of the two holes in the kitchen floor (she doesn't understand what "entrance to the underworld" means)
  • estimate from Mr. Rooks, who will be installing the cooktop, the wall oven, and the down draft
  • select glass for bar cabinets
  • begin the granite hunt for the center island
  • sand and prime existing cabinets
  • get started painting

Wow. That's a gracious plenty for this week. Maybe this will be the two-week work plan.

After reading your list of things to do, even I want to procrastinate on this project. Glad you're getting it done! I know you'll be so pleased once it's complete.

Hey, I'm having a paint party at my house Saturday. Any takers? Yes, folks, that means a brush in one hand. Bev

PS: She also had Blue Bell vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce although we are still try ing to figure out who ate the maraschino cherry.

There's the atrocity, Beverly. THE maraschino cherry. THE. ONE. Why so stingy with the cherries? I don't get that. SCOOPS of ice cream. OUNCES of chocolate sauce. And yet, one friggin' cherry. So sad. It's seems so unjust.

May I recommend "ubatuba" for granite? It just looks awesome. (And is on display in our humble abode)

Yeah, good luck with the cat thing. Goldberry about killed all of us crawling through the joists, etc. when our floor was up. It's a good thing we love her.

Choosing stone is so fun! May I put in a plug for soapstone? I love mine.

Old people food? "FPG" is referring to the meal I posted under Today's Bites for August 29 - stuffed pork loin, roasted sweet potatoes, and green beans. A belated birthday dinner prepared by friends. I had no idea that a stuffed pork loin smacked of the elderly. Did any of you?

And about that handle of yours. I hope it means you carry a fanny pack. Alas, I fear it might be dirty...

OH, well that makes an enormous amount of sense. I wonder if the Cafe is closing. It (is/was) freakin delicious.

(Don't you like how I spun the topic back to food? Bada-bing.)

The cafe is closing in August. There was an ad with a letter from Brad and his sister announcing the closing. Ms. Pearl has been cooking there for 49 years.

Speaking of nonfood, come on Deb, we expected something cupidy for February...great loves... Romeo and Juliet, Anthony and Cleopatra...Burton and Taylor...Bogey and Bacall...Renate and Ski...
