United Mileage Plus Dining
Thanks, Teresa. Under your tutelage, I've become a complete and utter mileage whore. Every move I make (gassing up the car, paying my mobile phone bill, ordering flowers for my mother), I mentally calculate how many miles I'll earn and if I can somehow leverage that purchase into greater returns. I used to be an Amazon.com devotee. No more. Barnes and Nobles gets my bucks now because I can shop online through the United Mall and earn 3 miles for every dollar spent. When I sent flowers in my pre-whoredom days, I used 1-800-Flowers.com because I hold stock in the company. Dividends be damned. I'm all about FTD now. Fifteen miles for every dollar! The worst part of all of this is that I've let my desire to accrue miles drive my dining choices. You see, I'm trying to get to elite status in the Mileage Plus Dining program. That's the point at which you begin earning 10 miles for every dollar spent at a participating restaurant. Here in Augusta, we only have one participating restaurant. Roma's Pizza. You probably noticed a lot of pizza in the Today's Bites section of this web site over the past week. So now you know. This morning, Marian and I are trying to find our mojo so that we can hit the road to Columbia, SC, for a little shopping excursion. I run out here to the computer to check Mileage Plus participating restaurants. I'm shameless. What I find is pretty limited. Rio Nightlife and more than a half a dozen Sonic drive ins. I'm searching for the inner strength to rise above my lust for miles. If you see an extra long cheese coney and a blue coconut slush posted on Today's Bites later this evening, you'll know I failed.
Dined at Ryoko's sushi restaurant my first night here in San Francisco. Yep, a participant in the Mileage Plus program. Three dines away from elite status. One of the guys sitting next to me at the sushi bar was telling me how much he liked the fish at Ryoko's. And then he said (and I'm not making this up) - "and you also get miles when you eat here." Ah, a kindred mile whore. We're everywhere. And just like the Masons .... to be one, ask one. I'm here to provide guidance and counsel providing you use me as your referrer when you sign up for your Mileage Plus Visa card.

I'm failing at United's Mileage Plus program. I'm doing something wrong. I have over 14,000 Mileage Plus miles expiring at the end of December and all they want to offer me is magazine subscriptions...not even subscriptions that can be gifted this holiday season.
I'm skipping Sonic (Columbia has many better restaurants) and mall shopping this year. Everything is being purchased on-line...thanks for reminding me about the United Mall.
Next time y'all head to Columbia, let me know what area of town you'll be in and I can recommend a place that doesn't serve tots with every meal.
Shake it off - the only place to go is up....a suggestion? Try the American Express/Delta Skymiles card and have MCG pay their advertising bills with it. On second thought, perhaps don't. You will lose your job because you will always be flying to some fantastic destination as your hussy-butt will be lapping-up free champagne and NOT beefaroni. Tots indeed!
(I'm ready for you guys to come home! I've had to go out to eat with my friends every night because all Dad's been serving is mac & cheese or dried-out tacos. I miss my mama and her sous-chef!)
From January 1 through March 31, 2007, earn DOUBLE MILES for every dollar spent above $2250, providing the charges are for gasoline, groceries, dining or hotel lodging. No need to enroll, simply use your United Mileage Plus VISA card as indicated above.
