Blueberries - One Way or Another

I want to make something requiring blueberries. I can't decide whether to go for old-fashioned all American blueberry buckle or its high brow European cousin, clafouti. I'm a sucker for alliteration, and I like the fact that one bakes a buckle in a cast iron skillet. But clafouti ... there's just something about that thick custardy consistency (oh, a little alliteration there, too). And, really, while clafouti sounds high brow, it is nothing more than a simple, rustic French dessert. Buckle? Clafouti? Or should I whip up a blueberry martini and be done with the whole darn debate?

Blueberry Buckle, best baked by our beloved Bitegeist blogger, Barshafsky!

If I ever get to be President or First Lady of the United States, my personal project will be to stamp out alliteration by forming the American Anti-Alliteration Assocation.

Clafouti - sounds like something you'd pick up while serving in your military overseas....

Stick with the Buckle - anything that requires baking in a cast iron skillet HAS to be good....

The best dessert I have EVER had was maple cheesecake with blueberry sauce at the New England Culinary Institute.

If anyone can replicate this recipe and make it for me I will mow your grass, wash your car, and name my next cat after you.

If you have fresh blueberries, they go great with Kashi Go Lean Crunch and Dannon Lite Vanilla Yogurt. Great for breakfast and only 4 points per cup on Weight Watchers.

How about another quiz, Deb? You know that everyone in this blogging group loves a good competition?

Teresa - you want the quiz because you seemingly "won" the last puzzle she posed.

Here's a little quiz: What do these food items have in common? Barley, kamut, sesame seeds.

another quiz? you're on. in the meantime, let's busy ourselves with vivian's question. were they all items that were used to make viv's breakfast bagel? no, too obvious. what about foods with medicinal uses? no, no ... ah, what about foods found in egyptian pyramids?

I had some freak-tastic blueberry-lemon breakfast bars recently. I can try and dig up the recipe, if you like. But me lovey muffins and clafoutis as well.

Well, let's see.... they are either ingredients found in multi-grain bread or they are ingredients found in human poo after a open house at Earth Fare.

luisa - forget about the recipe. send the bars!!

Well, if I could figure out how to do THAT, I could make some serious cash. But I did post the recipe yesterday, and I made them today with raspberries instead (similarly delectable results).

The answer to the quiz is figs, beer, bread, garlic, onions and beans. I'll be waiting for my ticket to Giza. Don't be Cheops! HA! HA! HA!

I was waiting for Teresa to weigh in on this, because I figured she would get this one too. The answer: foods that originated in Egypt.

hmmmm.... about those quiz results, viv. kamut, i'll give you. but sesame seed and barley. i think there's a school of thought that puts sesame seed in africa ... and barley in china. you may want to leave the quizmastering to me.

and bev ... you answered what i suggested was the answer to vivian's quiz. i posed it as a question (kinda like jeopardy) so i can see how that was a tad confusing. you won't be receiving a round trip ticket to the pyramids of giza.

sincerely, ms. cheops.

Well, I'm only as good as the web sites I search. In this case it was www.lifetimefitness.com and www.hormel.com.

I will leave the quiz mastering up to you, dear quizmeister.
