Hot Dogs on Wheels

Last week, a member of the Bitegeist faithful (that would be Martha) called me with exciting news. She spotted the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in Columbia, SC, and managed to snap a few fuzzy photos with her phone's camera. We had fun looking at those over dinner the next evening.

Not to be outdone, the 2006 Bitegeist Fan of the Year (that would be Vivian) sniffed out the Wienermobile and posed for the following portrait. Note the victory stance. You probably can't make out the writing on her shirt. It says "Life is Good." It certainly is when you're standing next to a giant hot dog on wheels.

Your nephew has the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in his car collection. It is currently valued at $15.00. Looks exactly like it.

OMG!!!! I can't believe Martha sent you this picture!!! Yes, that's me. I can explain the bad hair. Really.

The Wienermobile was fantastic! The interior is decorated in mustard and ketchup colored leather. I have several more pictures I can provide if you all are interested.

There must've been 20 adults pulling over and taking pictures. Everyone was happy and excited. The Wienermobile driver, sorry I didn't get his name, was accommodating to all - especially the 3 kids who were getting trampled by the excited adults!

LIFE IS GOOD !

I was so very excited to actually see the Weinermobile when I was in Columbia last week, that I nearly wrecked.

Vivian scored big-time with the up-close encounter and the inside tour! Way to go!

Did You Know...that the ORIGINAL Weinermobile was put on the road in 1952. It sits, in all of it's splendor, at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI and has the accolade as being the Most Photographed Exhibit in the museum!

Of course, if I had the money, I would purchase my own Weinermobile and bring smiles to many people. Deb - remember the Big Skate? Come On! This would be AWESOME to drive!

Check it out - we could apply to be a 'Hotdogger':

At Oscar Mayer, we receive applications from hundreds of wiener-wannabes every year. If you answer "Yes" to the questions below, go for it!

Applicants should have a BA or BS college degree, preferably in public relations, journalism, communications, advertising, or marketing, though applicants are not limited to these majors.

If you're chosen, you'll represent Oscar Mayer as a goodwill ambassador through appearances on radio and television stations; newspaper interviews; and visits to grocery stores and charity functions. You'll work with professionals in the fields of consumer promotion, marketing and sales; help organize promotions and even pitch TV, radio and print media. And last, but not least, you'll learn how to operate and maintain the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile vehicle.

Wienermobile vehicles travel the highways of America, through all regions of the country, visiting big cities and small towns alike, bringing miles of smiles to millions.

The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile vehicle isn't just about the promotion of our products. For over 65 years, the Wienermobile has brought smiles and Wienerwhistles to kids of all ages. Oscar Mayer continues to use the Wienermobile at consumer and charity events throughout the country.

This Sunday, on the return trip from West By God Virginia, we spotted the wienermobile. Marian's birthday. We all agreed, the omen was good.

So we've seen the wienermobile and the Hershey's Kissmobile. What does that leave ... Mr. Peanut's Hot Rod? The Spammobile? The Meow Mix Mobile? Red Lobster's Clawde? Anything else?

How exciting is that?!?!?! Happy Birthday, Marian!

I was very excited to hear about the Weinermobile sighting Sunday. Liza compelled me to do some research. There are currently 6 in the U.S. Sound like a DARN good omen to me, Marian...

i'm sorry, in my old age i can't for the life of me figure out what that has to do with seeing the weinermobile!!
September 20, 2007 | Unregistered Commentermarian
Okay, Marian, let me explain it to you in your old age...

Refreshing your memory of the Oscar Meyer Wiener jingle: "Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Meyer wiener. That is what I'd really like to be. 'Cause if I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener, everyone would be in love with me!"

Because you were driving along, on your 23rd birthday and spotted the Wienermobile, it's a sign that everyone is in love with you....therefore, a good omen.

Also, ketchup red and mustard yellow are bright, cheery colors signifying a bright cheery year ahead for you.

The bun on the Wienermobile represents comfort and protecting from the harsh realities of life.

And the upturned wiener is sign that all things are looking up for you.

There you have it! If you need me to explain anything else, just ask!

I think Bev was in wienerland.....

vivian...dear child,,,,, i did love what you had to say about my birthday and the weiner mobile. what i was referring to in my previous comment, was beverly's comment, on nathan's hotdogs coming to brewsters...what does THAT have to do with MY sighting of the weinermobile??
September 20, 2007 | Unregistered Commentermarian
Sorry. The voices in my head thought you meant something else.

Nathan's hotdogs are hard to come by down south. They are famous up north especially when they do the annual hot dog eating contest at Coney Island and that kid from Japan downs tons of them. There is absolutely no relation to the wienermobile other than David has one made by either hotwheels or matchbox.

Quit being a weenie.

i know you are but what am i?
HAHA

What you are Marian is an endless bundle of .... oh...wait...you didn't want me to find the symbolism. You were commenting back to Bev again...nevermind.

..."And the upturned wiener is sign that all things are looking up for you." What? Really? That's not the first thing that came to mind of what it might represent... Wonder what Andy Warhol would think?

i don't know - maybe he would make a tote bag out of it.
September 21, 2007 | Unregistered Commentermarian
Perhaps a weiner-tote! Maybe decorate it with a little skull. Something sort of avant garde!
