The Eating Habits of Our Neighbors
The other day I was working in my yard and stumbled upon a grocery receipt that clearly didn't escape from my trash bin. Yep, that's my store - the National Hills Publix - but not my foodstuffs. How fabulous - a sneak peak into the eating habits of one of my neighbors. First the basics - they spent $112.65 and paid with $200 in cash. Wow, that's some kinda walking around money. They used $4 in coupons and saved $29.32 in Advertised Special Savings. But now on to the interesting part - their grub. At first glance, my impression is that these folks need to drink more water. They bought a lot of Pepsi, Powerade, Mountain Dew, Capri Sun, and Sierra Mist. A lot. They also bought two gallons of milk (whole), but I suspect that was to wash down the honey buns and Little Debbie cupcakes and jelly creme pies. Dinners for the week involved butterflied pork chops and a chuck roast with carrots, the carrots being the ONLY vegetable on a grocery list that topped $100. Other meats? Ground beef, two packages of beef franks, light bologna, and olive loaf (that must go with the white bread they also bought). But somebody in that household is trying to do the right thing - the receipt includes 10 fat free yogurts, in flavors from cappucino to coconut creme, some black seedless grapes, and cantaloupe. Only two non-food items on this shopping venture, liquid Tide and Downy. Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, the famous French epicure said "tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are." What do you think this grocery list tells us about my neighbors?

I did like Viv's very short and direct comment.
Not a very creative party, mind you, but a party none-the-less.
