The Kissmobile

I'm not sure why I didn't post this right after we got home from our trip. I suppose it was because I wasn't able to whip out my camera fast enough to get my own photo. But, last night, as I was drifting off to sleep watching Unwrapped ... there it was again: the Hershey's Kissmobile - a 26 foot long, 12 foot tall specialty vehicle that resembles a row of three Hershey's kisses. Marian and I spied it zipping down the highway when we were returning from our junket to Asheville. I checked the tour schedule online - it was headed to Charlotte, NC. Seeing a motorized platform festooned with three giant Hershey's kisses on a public highway ... it takes a few moments to process the image. I remember seeing it across the median - pointing with my mouth agape - and then collapsing in laughter. Seeing it stationary in a parking lot probably isn't one quarter as amusing as seeing the kisses in motion. One of those mountain top moments for a foodie. If we're lucky enought to stumble upon the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile and the Peeps Fun Bus while motoring down the highway ... well, my life would be damn near complete.

Don't forget the 'Giant Skate', little friend. Not a (fish) food item, of this I am aware, but pretty freaky, none-the-less!

The skate. How could I ever forget the skate? Imagine driving it to work, wearing goggles and an Amelia Earhartesque scarf.

It was dirty and smelly in the Giant Skate.

Imagine our surprise when, returning from a trip to Charleston, we came across the giant Oscar Meyer weiner mobile parked at a Hardees in a small S.C. town. Had a nice chat with the folks driving it - college kids who commit to a solid year of driving a hot dog! An Oscar Meyer weiner mobile Christmas ornament was found a couple of years later and graces our tree each year - resurrecting memories of a fabulously strange experience.
